PC RTS with more than 8 player LAN

My buddies and I usually play command and conquer generals over our home lan, but recently so many people have gotten into it where we can't all play in the same game. *Are there any RTS games that can support more than 8 players (16 ideally), or is there a mod for generals out there that lets you use more than 8 players? *Also I should not none of us of very impressive rigs, so something with low requirements or an older game would be ideal.
