Post You Wanted to Know: Fall into a Black Hole Simulator

A Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Colorado produced a video last year of what you might see if you fell into a black hole and, to be honest, it looked like maybe he created it to sync up with Dark Side of the Moon. It was neat at first, but then the Corel Draw came out and it just looked sorta hokey.

Now, scientists at the University of Stuttgart have created a new video showing the strange, light-warping effect you might see if you orbited a black hole. Of course, human nature being what it is, they promptly added their own take on what it would look like if you fell in both at free fall and with rockets to slow your pace.

The video was created by developing a simulation of the gravitational lensing effect black holes' immense gravity has on light passing near it. The result? Watch that stupid constellation Orion get torn apart like you always knew he deserved.
