After the jump, we'll explain why we're hoping the Vamplets become the very next "very latest thing". Yes, of course, for a seasoned, jaded Internet type, the Vamplets might start up a round of "Muppet Babies" jokes, and we understand that completely. But look past that need to tear down, and instead, take a long, hard look into these little Vamplets' eyes. Then turn them over and take down their diaper. Each Vamplet isn't just a doll. It comes with a built-in code in a hard- to-steal-from place that opens up exciting vampire-related content online. You see, each Vamplet has a very special personality. You'll learn a little more about the needs and wants of your Vamplet of choice from the comfort of your computer. Does it like walks on the beach? Poetry? Biting helpless people in alleys? Take a look and see! Designed by actual vampire lovers, the Vamplets are a way to make carnivorous terror adorable for a subculture that's slowly learned to be quite vampire-tolerant. But all that character stuff isn't what we liked the best about the Vamplet business model. Here's what we liked best. The Vamplets decided to reveal themselves to the world with a blood drive. Right in the back booths of Toy Fair. And instead of keeping all that blood for themselves like you'd expect selfish vampires to do, they chose to donate all that blood to the New York Methodist Hospital, letting them use it as they see fit. Even better, if you actually donated blood, you had your choice of a special t-shirt (as seen in the picture above) orâ?¦ â?¦a limited edition Toy Fair 2010 Vamplet of your very own. For a toy that's just arriving on the market, that's a pretty generous beginning. There's nothing wrong with making a profit, but there were a lot of people at Toy Fair just in it for themselves. It was really nice to see a toy line that was cute, well made, and ALSO interested in helping others. After all, if we're all gone, on whom will the Vamplets feed? Vampire lovers should take a look at the Vamplet site and watch for them to appearâ?¦ silentlyâ?¦ in the night. Remember, they can't steal your heart unless you invite them in first. It's the rules. Today's the last day of Toy Fair 2010. So our Toy Fair 2010 coverage returns tomorrow with the beginning of the end. Saddened? Relieved? Tell us in the comments below! More... |
