Christmas is a great time to get presents from people you know and love. Or, if you suffer from amnesia, itâ??s a great time to get presents from scary people you donâ??t remember ever meeting but who seem to know your name and have keys to your house. But thatâ??s not all. No, Christmas is about more than just getting cool stuff for yourself; Itâ??s also about getting cool stuff for your business!
Starting your own company takes not only a lot of effort but also a lot of resources. Gathering those resources can be expensive. Thatâ??s why here at the Sean Adams University of Business Management Development Leadership we suggest you turn your family and friends into â??Jolly Investorsâ?? and add a few things to your Christmas list that would benefit your business. Here are a few suggestions:
Humble Beginnings: Look, nobody wants to hear about some guy who did pretty well for most of his life before stumbling into big time success. They want to hear about someone who was down on his luck, barely surviving day to day, when, suddenly, he struck gold with an exciting business venture. Thatâ??s why you should always make friends with biographers or people who have access to historical records and ask them for the gift of some detail-fudging. Like, get them to say your mom worked in a factory un-knitting scarves that didnâ??t sell back into yarn and that your dad couldnâ??t work on account of a mysterious tree-trimming accident.
Graphs That Go Up: It can take a long time to build a business whose graphs go up. So, until you do, why not ask for a few graphs that go up from other businesses. Then you can hang them around your office and look at them and think, â??Someday my graphs will go up like these graphs go up.â??
A Secret Compartment: It can be any size compartment: a desk drawer, a room, an underground bunker. It doesnâ??t matter as long as itâ??s there and itâ??s a secret. Whatâ??s it for? Nothing. You donâ??t even have to put anything in it. Just having a secret compartment around gives you confidence throughout your day. Because every time you pitch a sale or call a staff meeting or talk to a possible investor, youâ??ll be thinking, â??None of these people have any idea about my compartment! Ha! I laugh at them and their out-in-the-open compartments!â?? (Important note: in order for it to be a real secret, the person giving it to you canâ??t know about it either.)
Lasers: This is less about getting lasers and more about knowing who a) has access to lasers and b) is willing to give them to you. Go ahead and consider those people â??future business partners.â??
Tell me what your business is asking for this Christmas in the comments. Or if youâ??re not sure, tell me about your business and Iâ??ll help you figure something out.
